Read More	Robert Norman Ogden was born on May 7, 1923, in Fairmont to Preston Paul and Tena (Renken) Ogden, and passed away August 21, 2002, at home in Fairmont at the age of 79 years, three months and 14 days. He was the middle child of three sons. Norm married Gwen Philson on October 29, 1943. To this union three daughters were born: Mary Kathryne, Frances Anne, and Margaret Elizabeth. Norm farmed near Geneva until his retirement in 1994. He and Gwen received the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Farm Family Award in 2000. Norm was particularly proud of this award which honors recipients for maintaining 100 years of continuous ownership of the family farm. He graduated from Fairmont High School and attended the University of Nebraska for one year. While at the University, Norm pursued boxing, and his dream was to box in the Golden Gloves competition. Norm was a sports enthusiast. He coached boys baseball in Fairmont for many years. Later, he coached Legion baseball in Geneva. His family, his friends, his baseball, his farm and the Chicago Cubs were the loves of his life. Norm was an unassuming individual who enjoyed his many friends and the special times he shared with them, especially playing pitch at the Tower Cafe in Fairmont. You could also find him in his recliner cheering on his team, the Cubs. One highlight was attending a game at Wrigley Field and seeing his name flashed on the scoreboard. He found great satisfaction in working with the boy's baseball and encouraging young players in a sport he so dearly loved. Norm always found the good people to him, it didn't matter how much money a person had or how smart a person wash, he simply took people at face value and treated others the way he wished to be treated. He was an attentive grandfather , who enjoyed many special outings with his grandchildren. They appreciated his love, generosity and steadfast nature. His inside jokes and facial expressions made their grandpa an unforgettable character. Norm served on the Fairmont Rural Fire Protection Board as its secretary-treasurer. He was the Master of the Grange and held other offices in this organization. He was baptized and confirmed in the Fairmont Federated church. Later, he joined the United Church of Christ in Geneva, where he served as a trustee. Upon retirement, he transferred his membership back tot he Fairmont Community Church. He was also a member of the Fairmont Farmers Co-op Board. At the time of his death, Norm was a current board member of the REA/Perennial Public Power District. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Paul and Tena (Renken) Ogden, and his dear aunts, Anna and Emma Renken. He is survived by Gwen, his wife of 58 years.; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Paul Novak of North Platte; daughter, Frances and son-in-law, Terry Johnson of Chicago, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Tom Boyer of Fairmont; grandchildren chad and wife, Sandy Novak, Jonathan Boyer, Tommy and wife Jessica Boyer, Travis Johnson, and Candice Boyer; and four great-grandchildren: Lauren and Ryan Boyer, Samantha Novak, and Max Boyer; brother Hubert and wife June of Omaha and John and wife Jo of Littleton, Colo.; and nephews, John, James, Marc and David. Funeral services were held at the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont on Monday, August 25, with Pastor Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Nancy Jo Galusha accompanied Jonathan Boyer, who sang "Whispering Hope" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Pallbearers were Chad Novak, Travis Johnson, Jonathan Boyer, Tommy Boyer, Robert Nunns, Mic Goc, Kenny Krejci and Tom Novak. Honorary pallbearer was Candice Boyer.
