Description	:	Robert Redding was born at LaPorte, Indiana, February 16, 1857, and died at his home in Lyons, Nebraska, May 29, 1927, aged 70 years, 3 months and 13 days. When about 16 years of age he came to Collins, Iowa, and here on August 13, 1877, he was married to Miss Clara E. Fertig, who died December 5, 1883, in the state of Colorado. Read More	Robert Redding was born at LaPorte, Indiana, February 16, 1857, and died at his home in Lyons, Nebraska, May 29, 1927, aged 70 years, 3 months and 13 days. When about 16 years of age he came to Collins, Iowa, and here on August 13, 1877, he was married to Miss Clara E. Fertig, who died December 5, 1883, in the state of Colorado. To them were born two daughters who survive: Mrs. E. H. Busse of Colorado Springs and Mrs. C. E. Grothe of Tekamah. In January 1884 Mr. Redding came to Burt County, where he has resided since with the exception of a brief four year stay in Scottsbluff county at Minitare. On October 13, 1886 he was married to Miss Clara Blackstone of Craig, Nebraska. She died November 10, 1920. To them were born Wallace G. Redding of Lyons, Mrs. W. E. Halmick of Minitare, Floyd A. Redding of Lyons and Ray Redding of Lyons. September 28, 1922 he was married to Miss Bertie Smith of Lyons, and she together with the aforesaid mentioned children survive him. He also leaves two sisters and three brothers as follows: Mrs. Nancy Stevens of Clinton, Iowa; Mrs. M. D. Perry of Honer, Michigan; Mrs. Sarah Blue of Elkhart, Iowa; Lewis Redding of Fruits, Colorado; Earl E. Redding of Wardner, Idaho and George L. Redding of Platte, South Dakota. Mr. Redding spent practically all his life on the farm. He never relinquished his interest in the things of agriculture and the stock of the farm. He retired in 1915, and moved to the city of Lyons, however in 1921 he went into the automobile business with his sons Floyd and Ray. Later in 1923 he withdrew entirely from the firm and has spent these last years at ease. Mr. Redding was possessed of a happy soul and delighted in the association of his friends and the interests of his loved ones. He had many friends, and they can scarcely realize that he has been removed, so swift has been the taking off. For many years he has been a member of the Presbyterian church and for several terms a Trustee of this local church. He was also identified with the I.O.O.F. and M. W. A. lodges. Coming to Iowa in an early year, and also to Nebraska, he experienced the emotions of the pioneer. He traversed these plains when the covered wagon was the only means of locomotion and transport; in fact he made his first trip to Colorado with thirty others who employed the ox cart and the covered wagon for their necessities. He wrought successfully to make his little fortune and to rear his family respected and worthy of honor. A father loved and honored by his children, a husband thoughtful and tender of his wife, a neighbor who was respected by all who knew him. He will be missed on the street, in the home and from the midst of his great circle of associates. Most men, in hours like these, are inclined to wonder at, if not question God's way of dealing with us, but, "Sometime when all life's lessons have been learned, And suns and stars forevermore have set, And we shall see how all God's plans are right, The things o'er which we grieved with lashes wet, will flash before us out of life's dark night, As stars shine most in deeper tints of blue; And we shall see how God's plans are right, And how what seems reproof was love most true." Author Unknown Mr. Redding's funeral was held from the Presbyterian church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. J. H. Salsbury, D.D., pastor of the church being in charge. A large congregation of his relatives and friends were present. The I.O.O.F. was in charge of the committal at the grave. Interment was in the local cemetery. The out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Robert Redding were: Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Redding and daughter Lois of Minitare, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Helmick of Minitare, Nebraska; Mrs. E. H. Busse of Colorado Springs, CO; Mrs. W. J. Shallcross of Bellevue, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Redding of Niles, MI.
