Deceased was born, March 12th, 1814, at Yellow Bud, Ross County, Ohio where he resided until a young man, when he removed to Wisconsin locating in Layiette and Green counties. Deceased was born, March 12th, 1814, at Yellow Bud, Ross County, Ohio where he resided until a young man, when he removed to Wisconsin locating in Layiette and Green counties. Here he married Marium Williams, from which union there are two daughters, Mrs. Shultz of Grand Island, Nebr. And Mrs. Eastwood of Mission Creek, Nebr. In 1848 he married Mrs Sarrah Hoffman who died last June leaving six daughters and two sons all of whom are living. These are Mrs Pickett, of Blue Springs, Mrs. McNight of Grand Island, Mrs. Underhill of Wisconsin, Mrs. Austin of Minnesota, Mrs Barnes, Mrs. E. Taylor and Lack Kirkendoll of Barneston and Robert of Wymore. The deceased was an old soldier , first serving in the Black Hawk war as messenger, carrying dispatches from fort to fort and often having many narrow escapes from the Indians. After this war was over he engaged in mining in Wisconsin until the Civil War, then enlisted in 1861 serving several months when he was taken prisoner, exchanged and discharged and returned home for a short time, then re-enlisted and served until the close of the war. He engaged in farming in Wisconsin until 1883 when he emigrated to Nebr., locating in Barnston, where he lived until a few months ago, then he went to live with his daughter Mrs. Pickett, while here death called him Febr. 17, 1897 Living to the ripe old age of 82 years 11 months and 5 days. The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church at Barneston on Thursday, Rev. Brown of the United Brethren church, of this city conducting the services after which he was laid to rest beside his wife in the Barneston cemetery.
