Read More	Obituary for Robert Roy Whiting; Transcribed from the Cherokee Daily Times, Cherokee, Cherokee County, Iowa; page 4, Thursday, August 16, 1962: ALTA – Robert Roy Whiting, son of Joseph and Annie Braley Whiting, was born on a farm southwest of Alta on April 26, 1888 and died suddenly at his home in Alta on August 4, 1962 at the age of 74 years, three months and 22 days. He grew to manhood at Alta, attending school there. On January 28, 1914 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Johnson of Aurelia. They resided on a farm near Aurelia where they lived until retirement in 1950, moving to Alta where they have since made their home. They were the parents of six children. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle; two sons, Lyle and Lawrence, both of Aurelia; three daughters, Mrs. Merlin (Lorilla) Resene, Aurelia, Mrs. Vernon (Bonnie) Ohlson, Cherokee and Mrs. Gladys Peck, Spencer. 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; One brother, John Whiting of Tucumcari, N.M. and one sister, Mrs. Annie Converse of Arlington, S.D., also survive. One son, Harold, preceded him in death in 1926. Mr. Whiting was associated with the Aurelia Congregational Church and was a 25-year member of the Aurelia chapter of the Knights of Pythias. Funeral services were held August 6 from Wharton Funeral Home, Aurelia, with Rev. Ernest Stanworth officiating. Mrs. Lee Robinson accompanied by Mrs. I. H. Leonard provided music. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Pallbearers were Berger Kine, Tennes Wilson, Howard Nelson, Sr., Guy Akers, John Booth and Harold Anderson. _______________ Card of Thanks Our heartfelt thanks to all who extended comforting sympathy and help in our recent sorrow.
