Description	:	Robert Roy Bowers gently passed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on July 30, 2013. Born in Fremont, Nebraska to Roy & Gertrude "Bobbi" Bowers on April 22, 1934, Robert joined the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from high school & served his country honorably for over 21 years. Following Robert's military career he went to work for the Washington State Employment Security Department in Olympia, Washington, from which he retired after 20 years. Read More	Robert Roy Bowers gently passed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on July 30, 2013. Born in Fremont, Nebraska to Roy & Gertrude "Bobbi" Bowers on April 22, 1934, Robert joined the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from high school & served his country honorably for over 21 years. Following Robert's military career he went to work for the Washington State Employment Security Department in Olympia, Washington, from which he retired after 20 years. Outside of his love for family & friends, the three loves of Robert's life were food, cars & travel. He had many favorite meals, but his most favorite was the one he was about to sit down to. Two of Robert's favorite rides were a Triumph TR-3, & a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible. Robert was bitten hard with the wanderlust, making cross-country trips with his family. However, his favorite mode of travel was aboard a cruise ship, something he enjoyed in his retirement years, sailing to such ports of call as Alaska & the Caribbean Islands. Robert deeply loved his family. The holiday season was simply the best in Bobby's book. Perhaps his most defining character trait was his love for & generosity to people. It mattered not what one's station in life was or where one was born, Robert just loved people. Robert knew no strangers, just friends he had yet to meet. Robert is survived by his wife, Magdalena, sons Tony Varela (Marilyn), Michael Bowers (Linde), daughter Diane Hurd (Mel), grandson Benjamin Varela (Amanda) & granddaughter Christina Varela. Survivors also include numerous relatives in Nebraska, California, & Ecuador. A celebration of Robert's life will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Christian Community Church in Olympia WA. Published in The Olympian on Aug. 7, 2013.
