Mr. Burns died Wednesday morning April 18, 1979 in Grinnell General Hospital Rev. Paul Mallory officiated and the organist was Mrs. Ed Barthachek. In care of flowers were Mrs. Mary Meissner and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Clayton. Casket bearers were Keith Berkhan, Gene Morgan, Tom Van Ersvelde, Vergil Heishman, Henry Maschmann, Jr. and Robert Wagner. Robert Russell Burns, Sr. was born on May 14, 1891, in Lexington, Nebraska, the son of Samuel and Katherine Yoder Burns. He received his educationin rural schools in Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Pearl case on March 14, 1923, Iin Lexington, Nebraska. They moved to the Brooklyn-Montezuma area in 1936 from Hamilton County, Iowa. Mr. Burns engaged in farming until his retirement. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. Heis survived by his wife, Pearl; five sonsNorman of Brooklyn, Robert Jr. of Rudd, Eldon of Brooklyn, Stuart of Des Moines, and Gerlad of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Blanche) Grothman of Concord, California, and Beverly of Eldridge, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Hoobler of Reseda, California; and 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
