Interment was in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military rites conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294 of Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Eldon Ardell Burns, son of Robert Burns and Pearl Case Burns, was born October 28, 1928, in Smithfield, Nebraska. His family moved to Williams, Iowa at the age of 5 and to Brooklyn in 1936. Eldon received his education in a rural school and the Brooklyn School, graduating from high school in 1947. He worked on a farm until entering the service during the Korean War. On Oct. 8, 1955 he was married to Geraldine Roth who died in 1956. On July 25, 1969, Eldon was married to Margaret DeLoof Humphrey at Ottumwa, Iowa. From February 1, 1965, he was a linesman for Brooklyn Municipal Utilities retiring in 1994. Mr. Burns was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, and Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Geraldine, and one sister, Blanche. Surviving are his wife Margaret; two step-sons and their wives and four step grandchildren, David and Beverly Humphrey and their children, Kathryn Anne and David W. II of Schenectady New York, Larry and Krista Humphrey and their children, Joshua Dean and Megan Kay, of Brooklyn; four brothers, Norman Burns of Brooklyn, Robert Burns, Jr. of Clear Lake, Iowa, Stuart Burns of Des Moines and Gerald Burns of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and one sister, Beverly Burns of Washington Court House, Ohio.
