| Description | : | He was born in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1810. By calculation from his headstone inscription, 22 October 1810. He grew up in Jefferson Township, Richland County, Ohio. (Richland had few permanent settlers prior to the War of 1812.) In 1843, he went by oxcart to Jefferson Township, Whitley County, Indiana. Traveling with him were members of the Hanley and Maring families, related to the Bells by marriage. As an aside, Robert Smith Bell's uncle, John Bell (1781-1867; my ancestor) served in the War of 1812 in the same company (probably from Belmont County) as Peter Maring.... Read More |
