Robert Soren “Bob” Jacobson was born May 31, 1924, on the farm in Maple Township, Monona County, Iowa. He grew up in the area and graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1943. He enlisted into the United States Navy May 3, 1944, and was honorably discharged December 20, 1947. He then worked in construction for various companies. On June 6, 1948, Bob was united in marriage to Fern Engelke at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton. The couple lived in Mapleton where Bob worked for Haubrich Construction. He also worked for two years in California in the construction business before returning to Iowa. In the early 1960’s, Bob and his two brothers, Don and Dale joined together to form Jacobson Brothers, a successful construction business. Over the years Bob and Fern bought out the business and created B & F Construction in 1978. Bob, Fern, his sons and later his grandsons all worked together in the construction and remodeling of all kinds of structures all over the area. Bob worked up until just recent years when his health declined. He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton where he served as board president for years, held several church offices, and did a great deal of volunteer work. He was also a pitcher on the church ball team in younger years. He was a 70 year member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton, was a Mapleton Mayor and City Councilman, and member of the Mapleton Community Club. Bob and Fern helped operate the Little League concession stand and sold tickets at the gate at school, both which brought them acknowledgment. Bob loved to bowl and was on numerous bowling leagues over the years. He once won second in the State Bowling Tournament for the 80 plus year group, an accomplishment he was proud to have achieved. He also enjoyed fishing with friends, having done so in Canada a few times. Bob loved his family, especially his grandchildren and attending their many sporting events and the family gatherings at home. He will be deeply missed by his entire family. Those survivors left to love and honor Bob are Fern, his wife of 68 years; his first born triplets, a son and two daughters, Bruce Jacobson and his wife, Rose of Mapleton, Iowa, Pam Clausen and her friend, Bob Kaus of Holstein, Iowa, and Pat Petersen and her husband, Denny of Danbury, Iowa and a son, Sheldon Jacobson and his wife, Peg of Mapleton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; and one sister-in-law, Helma Engelke of Mapleton, Iowa; along with other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Thomas Jacobson; a son-in-law, Dale Clausen; three brothers, Harold, Don, and Dale Jacobson; and one sister, Genevieve Albertson.
