Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Church in Gibbon, NE. Revs. Michael Evans and Melody Adams will officiate and burial will be at Riverside Cemetery near Gibbon, NE. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Robert was born on July 29, 1928 in Eddyville, NE to Christian G. and Frieda M. (Beth) Burr. He graduated from Eddyville high school with the class of 1946 and later attended Kearney State Teachers College. He married Ilis J. Bowden on December 26, 1948 in Sumner, NE. Robert and Ilis made their home on a farm on Kilgore Island near Gibbon, NE in February of 1949. Robert and Ilis farmed for many years, finally retiring in 1993. Ilis and Robert enjoyed attending sporting events together for children and grandchildren and were awarded the first ever Gibbon Booster Honorary Fans Award. Robert was a dedicated member of the Faith United Church for many years. He also served as a member of the Gibbon School Board. He enjoyed playing cards at the Peterson Senior Center, horse racing and woodworking. He was diligent with his visits to friends and family in area nursing homes and often left them with a homemade gift he had made from wood. He greatly enjoyed his family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving relatives include his Daughters, Vickie Power and husband Lee of Gibbon, NE, Trudy Plautz and husband Dean of Gibbon, NE, Cindy Nickel and husband Frank of Kearney, NE, Brenda Bendfeldt and husband Bob of Gibbon, NE, Becky Densberger and husband Don of Malcolm, NE and Stephanie Johannsen and husband Tim of Gibbon, NE; Sister in law, Elaine Burr of Gibbon, NE; 17 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren; Many other nieces, nephews and other extended family. Robert was preceded in death by his Wife, Ilis; Parents; Brothers, Roy Burr, William J. Burr, Walter Burr; Sisters, Sophia Mazenec, Ida Crawford and Louise Burr.
