Leicht, passed away peacefully, in her sleep on August 1, 2010 in Bozeman, Montana, soon after being kissed good night by her family. The family is certain that she was personally summoned by Bob and greeted with the words: "Flower, what took you so long?" Robert, affectionately known to many as "Bob" or Gus, was born August 4, 1924, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Kenneth and Mabel (Hake) Leicht. He attended grammar school and high school in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. After graduation from Central High School in 1943, Bob joined the United States Naval Reserve and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI, and Lawrence College at Appleton, WI, in the officer's training program. He was commissioned an Ensign after attending the Naval Reserve Midshipman's School at Fort Schuyler, New York in 1945, and received further training in bomb disposal at Washington D.C. and Norfolk, VA. He served active duty on the U.S.S. Springfield, a cruiser assigned to protect aircraft carriers in the seas of China and Japan. He was promoted to Lieutenant (JG) in 1953 and honorably discharged from duty in 1955. In 1946, while serving at the U.S. Naval Ordnance Supply Depot in San Francisco, Bob met Elizabeth A. Esp, the love and "flower" of his life. Bob and Betty were married on September 28, 1946, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Together, they raised four children, and at the time of their death had been married for 63 years. After a brief residence in Montana, Bob and Betty moved back to Sheboygan, where he became Vice-President of Eclipse Manufacturing Co., a custom metal stamping and metal fabricating company established by his grandfather in 1939, with plants in Sheboygan and Pikeville, Tennessee, and President of Optenberg Ironworks, a company owned by Eclipse Mfg. Co. While residing in Sheboygan, Bob and Betty were long-time members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and active in the Lay Witness Mission program. They were also members of the Sheboygan Elk's Club, Sheboygan Yacht Club, and Pine Hills Country Club. After Bob's retirement, they re-located to Sun City West, Arizona, where they became active members Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church and its prayer group, enthusiastic golfers, and gathered often with a special group of fun-loving and loyal friends in their neighborhood. Bob took up silversmithing and jewelry making and served on the Board of Directors for the Sundome Performing Arts Association and Sun Health (Boswell Memorial Hospital and Del E. Webb Memorial Hospital). Betty took up china painting, china doll making, and filled their desert yard with glorious flowers, fruit trees, and generations of birds, quail, and rabbits. Bob and Betty embodied the best of traditional American values, unswerving dedication to hard work, excellence, and integrity, and loyalty to God, family and friends. For those who were privileged to share their lives and knew them best, Bob will most fondly be remembered for his love of people, dancing, beautiful music, and beautiful words, and the comfort he found in the wooded shores and changing seasons of Lake Michigan, birdsong, wildlife, and his beloved dogs. He will also be remembered for his sage advice, steady hand in times of trouble, engaging sense of humor, and ability to make almost anybody under the sun (except Lloyd) laugh!Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Leicht and Mabel (Leicht) Baldwin; his two brothers, Howard K. Leicht; and Richard F. Leicht.A combined funeral service was held on Saturday, August 7,at the Big Timber Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Alan Baglien. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Big Timber, Montana, and a celebration of their life followed at the Big Timber Lutheran Church parish hall. Part of Bob's ashes will be interred at Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan, WI, later this year. The Sheboygan Press August 11, 2010
