Read More	MOTHER: Opal Irene Negley FATHER: Artist LeRoy Smith SIBLINGS: Patty Irene, Pamela Ann, William SPOUSE: Ruby May Cover CHILDREN: Garrett Wayne, Debra Kay, Susan Lynne OBITUARY Robert Wayne Smith of Leon, Iowa, the son of Artist LeRoy "Roy" and Opal (Negley) Smith, was born March 23, 1931 in Decatur County, Iowa and died Sunday, August 8, 1999 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa at the age of 68 years. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. On March 14, 1954 he married Ruby May Cover at the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church in Lamoni, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Garrett Wayne, Debra Kay, and Susan Lynne. Robert was a farmer in Decatur County for most of his life. He also butchered for local lockers and was a crop adjustor. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. Preceding him in death were his parents. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruby Smith of Leon, three children: Garrett Smith of Osceola, Iowa; Debra Silver and husband Stuart of Lamoni, Iowa, and Susan Smith-Vice and husband Keith of Salem, Oregon; five grandchildren: Abigail, Nathaniel, Melissa, and Samantha Silver and Allyson Vice; two sisters: Pat Morgan of Olwein, Iowa and Pamela McKee and husband Morse of St. Charles, Iowa; brother William Smith and wife Mary of Valencia, California; and other relatives and friends. A memorial fund has been established by the family in Robert's memory. Following Robert's wishes, there will not be a visitation or service for him. The cremains will be scattered at a later date. Arrangements were made through the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa. NOTE Robert's ashes were scattered on the family farm north of Leon, Iowa, where he and his wife Ruby raised their family. A joint headstone for Robert and Ruby is on the lot where Ruby's ashes are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa.
