Robert Wilberforce Maddison was born March 11, 1907, to Thomas R. and Phyllis Taylor Maddison near Anthon and was a lifelong resident of the Anthon community. He married Lucille Smith on March 21, 1931, in Anthon. They were in dairy farming for several years. He later taught agriculture in a government program and was in the trucking business. He owned and operated Maddison's Farm and Home Store since 1953, where he was also a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer. He was also an agent for American Family Insurance for the last 35 years. He was active in the community and was past direction of Anthon Community School and school bus driver for many years. He was past president and charter member of the Lion's Club, a member of the Anthon Community Club and Anthon Senior Citizens. He was past president of Woodbury County Community Action Agency and was a member of its board at the time of his death. Mr. Maddison was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anthon, served as Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher for many years, and sang in the church choir. He was a lay member of the Iowa Methodist Conference. Survivors include his wife, two sons, Robert of Des Moines and Ralph of Richardson, Texas, a daughter, Mrs. William (Barbara) Donnell of Sioux City, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents.
