Lane, assistant main floor manager of Hickle's, has been appointed buyer of ladies sportswear, Hickle president Harold Drebin announced this week. Lane, who joined the Co. in 1964 in the men's department, will be responsible for misses and junior sportswear fashions for the local department store which also operates the Sharff Apparel stores in southeastern Ohio. "Hickle's has been expanding at a rapid rate and we are advancing several of our personnel into positions of responsibility," Drebin added. Lane, a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don L. Lane, and a native of Lancaster. He and his wife, Diane, and son, Darren, live at 227 E. Wheeling St. His activities include the United Appeal campaign, the Knights of Columbus, and the membership committee of the Downtown Retail merchants Council of Lancaster Area Chamber of Commerce. _________________________________________________ OBITUARY Robert William Lane, 75, son of Donald Leroy Lane and Mary Margaret Kemp Lane died October 1, 2021 at his home after eight years of successfully managing heart disease. He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1964, where he played football and helped the team win the State Championship that year. Following high school, Bob immediately launched a life-long career in retail sales and management at the former Hickles Department Store in Lancaster. In retirement he enjoyed golf and could often be seen practicing his swing in the field near his home, walking through Forest Rose Cemetery or enjoying his porch with anyone willing to sit awhile to admire his flowers, talk about his beloved Buckeyes, sports in general or his granddaughters. Bob is survived by sons Darren of Lancaster and Alex (Sarah) Lane of Chesterfield, VA; daughter Joanna Lane Javed, Louisville, KY; granddaughters Mikaela and Cameron Lane and Samira Javed; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Emily Thimmes Lane, Raleigh, NC; sister Donna M. Lane Gavin, Portland OR; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Diane Gower Lane and infant brother, Timothy. Final arrangements by Sheridan Funeral home are pending. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 255 N. Michigan Ave. Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
