Egler Sr. June 29, 1917 - Nov. 28, 2007 Robert William Egler Sr., 90, of Defiance died Wednesday at his residence. Born June 29, 1917, in Defiance County, he was the son of Louis Fred Egler and Mabel Cora Ryan. On Sept. 12, 1948, he married Phyllis June Kline, who preceded him in death March 15, 1994. A lifelong farmer, he worked for Richland Township for 44 years before retiring in 1992. He was also a member of the Jewell Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by four daughters, Rosemary (Jack) Duley, Wanetta (Jim) Wolff and Betty (Dennis) Sharp-Cheney, all of Defiance, and Mabel (Pete) Racht of Whitemills, Pa.; three sons, Robert (Christy) Jr. and Don (Betty Jo), both of Defiance, and Daniel (Susan) of Defiance; 11 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 21 step great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles; two sisters, Helen Hornish and Florence Dixon; and a grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Rev. Janet Strickland officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance County. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today and 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice/Caring Way of Defiance or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.mastmockhoffman.com. Services for Robert W. Egler were held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, in Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home with Rev. Janet Strickland officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jamie Egler, Allen Wolff, Jr. and Eddie Goins, Shawn and Burt Sharp, and Josh and Tim Hall.
