Description	:	Roger Lee Ward Brown died Thursday, June 8, 1961, in a car accident 2 miles south of the Harrisburg corner. Roger was 20 years old. His brother Raymond Ernest Brown was also a passenger in the car and died. Kenneth Wittrock, 18, was driving the car, and Glenn Jones, 16, was also a passenger. Roger was 20 years old. His brother Raymond Ernest Brown was also a passenger in the car and died. Kenneth Wittrock, 18, was driving the car, and Glenn Jones, 16, was also a passenger. The two-car crash killed five men, including the two Brown brothers. All four men in the Wittrock car were killed plus one man in the other vehicle. Wittrock, Jones, and the Brown boys grew up together in Sioux Falls and had attended the same grade schools. Wittrock’s father, Roy C. Wittrock, said his son and three friends left Sioux Falls Wednesday evening to fish near Klondike, Iowa, on the South Dakota-Iowa border 15 miles south of Sioux Falls. Roger Brown was employed by the Sioux Valley Milk Producers Association after completing three years in the Navy in April 1961. He attended Hayward Grade School at Sioux Falls. Raymond, who lived all his life in Sioux Falls and also attended Hayward School, was an employee of Gage Brothers Concrete Products Company at Sioux Falls. Combined funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 1961, at Hartford for the Brown brothers. Burial was at Hartford. Survivors include his widow and a son, Ricky, 17 months. Those from Vermillion attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gray and family, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gray and family, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rasmussen and family, the Robert Johnsons, John Grays, Hans Rasmussens, Mrs. James Brown, Mrs. Ida (Iverson) Gray, and Jessie Rasmussen.
