Description	:	Roland, the son of Chris W. and Emma Hansen, was born November 5, 1925 at Gray, Iowa. He married Rose Mary Blohm, the daughter of Henry and Mary Blohm, on March 20, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. To this union, an infant son was born and died in 1959. Read More	Roland, the son of Chris W. and Emma Hansen, was born November 5, 1925 at Gray, Iowa. He married Rose Mary Blohm, the daughter of Henry and Mary Blohm, on March 20, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. To this union, an infant son was born and died in 1959. Prior to marriage, Roland served three years in the U.S. Navy. At the time of his marriage, he was employed with the Audubon Tractor and Supply Company. Later, he was employed with the Cities Service Station in Exira and for the past two months had been employed with the Hawkeye Electric Company in Exira. On Wednesday, March 25, 1964, Roland and Rose Mary were traveling west in a station wagon owned by Hawkeye Electric of Exira, on Highway 6, about 3 miles east of Dexter, Iowa, during a severe winter storm, the visibility was very poor, and the highway was snow-packed. An eastbound car, driven by Richard J. Dooley of Omaha, collided with them, demolishing the Hawkeye Electric vehicle. A truck and two cars following the wrecked vehicles went into the ditch to avoid the pile-up. The two-car collision claimed the lives of Roland LaVerne Hansen, 39, of Exira; Richard J. Dooley, 28, of Omaha, NE; and Harry B. Stille, 41, of Papillion, NE. Raymond S. Osborn, 25, of Omaha, NE, was injured. Roland's wife, Rose Mary (Blohm) Hansen, was taken to the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where she was listed in critical condition with a concussion, fractures of both legs, and a possible back fracture. Roland was 38 years, 4 months, and 20 days. His funeral was held on Saturday, March 28, 1964, at the Methodist Church in Audubon,IA. Rose Mary died the next day, Sunday, March 29, 1964. Her funeral was held the following Wednesday, April 1, 1964, at the Methodist Church, Audubon, IA. Roland is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma Hansen of Audubon; a brother, Milo of Exira; and two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Florence) Staub and Mrs. Martin (Bertha) Nielsen, of Audubon. Casket Bearers were Lester Olsen, Russell Nelsen, James Jorgensen, John Knudsen, Merlyn Molgaard, and August Conrad, Jr.
