Description	:	Roland passed away peacefully on December 14, 2013 at Enloe Hospital with his family by his side. Roland was born in Lost Springs, KS on December 2, 1922 to Godfrey Daniel and Mary Lena (Riffel) Hanschu. He was raised and graduated from Ramona High School in Ramona, KS. He left Kansas shortly after high school to join the Army in California. After the service, he met his beautiful wife, Irene E. Roland was born in Lost Springs, KS on December 2, 1922 to Godfrey Daniel and Mary Lena (Riffel) Hanschu. He was raised and graduated from Ramona High School in Ramona, KS. He left Kansas shortly after high school to join the Army in California. After the service, he met his beautiful wife, Irene E. (Allwardt) in Lodi and enjoyed 68 years of marriage until her passing in 2012. Roland worked for Terhel Farms Drier and Storage in Colusa for 40 years before moving to Stockton where he worked for Continental Grain for 15 years until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 for 70 years, Butte County S.T.A.R.S. and Redeemer Lutheran Church. Roland and Irene enjoyed traveling and visited most of 50 U.S. Roland was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan with much memorabilia. When younger, he pitched for local fast-pitch softball teams and enjoyed bowling. Their home and yard in Chico was their greatest love. Family was the most important aspect to Roland and Irene and their home was the place for many family gatherings. He is survived by daughters Patricia Foreman (Carl), of Woodland, CA and Kathleen Hillman of Chico, CA. Grand-daughters Amy Wykert (Glenwood) of Thousand Oaks, CA and Julie Phelps (Kevin) of Woodland, CA and Great granddaughters Ashley Phelps of Clyde, Texas and Elizabeth Phelps of Woodland, CA, Taya Wykert of Thousand Oaks, CA. Sisters-in-law Donna Allwardt of Yuba City, CA, and Marge Hanschu of Joplin, MO. Brother-in-law Don Allwardt of Richmond, CA, many nieces and nephews in Kansas and Missouri. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Irene, son in law Ernest Hillman of Chico. Brother Lowell Hanschu, Ramona, KS. Sister Eldina Judd, Topeka KS.
