BAKER CALLED BY DEATH TUESDAY, JAN. 19 Rites Held Thursday For Lifelong Akron Vicinity Resident As briefly noted in these columns last week, Rollo J. Baker, widely-known and highly esteemed resident of this community, passed away Tuesday morning, January 19, at his home, two miles west of Akron, following a brief illness, aged 75 years, 6 months and 16 days. Rollo John Baker was born on the farm in Union County, S.D., July 3, 1889, the son of Francis P. and Elvirn Baker. He was baptized during infancy in the Episcopal Church. He resided there his entire life and assisted his father with the farm work until the latter passed away. In 1914 he was united in marriage with Miss Estella Jennison, of Ireton, Ia., and a daughter and two sons were born to this union. She passed away early in the fall of 1917. At a wedding in Sioux Falls, S.D., Rollo was married to Edith Baldwin, May 24, 1932. Rollo Baker was truly one of nature's noblemen, and was never happier than when indulging in his favorite pastimes of hunting and fishing. He was outstanding in various athletic sports, particularly baseball, ice skating and hockey during his young manhood. His upright character, jovial nature and pleasant personality gained for him the respect and lasting friendship of a host of acquaintances through the years. Among relatives left to mourn his departure are: His wife, Edith; one daughter, Mrs. T.R. (Barbara) Burnight, of Battle Creek, Mich.; two sons, Slade and Rollo John Baker, Jr., of Akron; a step-daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Jean Kratochvil, of Brooking, S.D.; 12 grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rev. David J. Roy officiating. Mrs. Stuart Harris was vocalist and Mrs. Henning Shoulberg was organist. Casket bearers were W.L. Mitchell, Lyle Jacobs, Porter Maynard, William Halliday, Raymond Hebeler and Everett Coyle. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. T Robert Burnight, of Battle Creek, Mich.; Mrs. H.D. Johnson, of Ft. Madison, Ia.; Mrs. W.H. Ceilley and sons, Dr. Ed H Ceilley and Bernard Ceilley, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Mrs. Harold Koolman, of Mankato, Minn.; Mrs. Albert Jolink, of Edgerton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Evenson, Mrs. Lyle Dersheld, Dr. and Mrs. D.E. Kratochville and sons, of Brooking, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Dwane Eshelman, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Eshelman, Mrs. Chas. A. Johnson, of Worthington, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Monteith, of Newcastle, Nebr.; The Wm. Kratochville families of Alcester, S.D. and Hawarden, Ia; B.L. Lamoureux, of Casper Wyo.
