June was born October 25, 1923, to Carl and Anna (Young) Smith. She attended school at Waukee. Upon graduation, she attended ISU and received a teaching certificate. June taught at Anderson, Iowa, until she married Verle Blake on December 15, 1946. She and her husband lived on a farm, where she was a homemaker, and loved to help by running the combine and picking corn. June was born October 25, 1923, to Carl and Anna (Young) Smith. She attended school at Waukee. Upon graduation, she attended ISU and received a teaching certificate. June taught at Anderson, Iowa, until she married Verle Blake on December 15, 1946. She and her husband lived on a farm, where she was a homemaker, and loved to help by running the combine and picking corn. June was an active member of Waukee Christian Church, and later the Dallas Center United Methodist Church. She was active in Women's Group, and taught Sunday school. June had been a member of Questers. She was very interested in antiques and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Many of her children's friends have fond memories of the cinnamon rolls she lovingly made and served them. Above all, June loved her family. She supported her husband and his love for horses. June was very interested in her children's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities. Verle and June even drove to Minnesota to watch their granddaughters play ice hockey, freezing in the cold arena. In addition, she had been a 4-H and Cub Scout leader. Her husband of over 67 years, Verle Blake; her children, Mark (Julie) Blake and Dr. Marcia (John) Mills; two granddaughters, Sarah (Steve) Liguori and Amy (Alex) Lepowsky; three great grandchildren Allyson, Christian, and Ryan Liguori; and a sister, Cathy Barker, survive her. Her parents and brothers Ronald, Verle, and Lyle preceded her in death. In accordance with her wishes cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial graveside service will be held at the Waukee Cemetery on Saturday, May 25 at 2:30 p.m. ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES FUNERAL HOMES ~ BRANDT DALLAS CENTER CHAPEL.
