Boes 1918-2007 The Carroll Daily Times Herald, February 14, 2007 CARROLL—Mass of the Christian burial for Romain Boes of 511 W. 10th St., Carroll, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Mr. Boes, 88, a 30-year veteran of the Carroll Police Department, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, at his home. The Revs. Timothy Schott and Clair Boes will concelebrate the Mass. Gift bearer will be Holden Melia. Casket bearers will be Bill Heller, Les Butler, Bill Croghan, John Boes, Terry Boes and Gene Wiederin. The Carroll Police Department and Maurice Dunn American Legion Post of Carroll will form an honor guard. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll. Visitation started at 2:30 and a rosary was prayed at 3 this afternoon at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. A vigil will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home. A son of John and Ann (Geier) Boes, he was born Oct. 29, 1918, at Wall Lake and attended St. Bernard School at Breda. Mr. Boes served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He was recalled as an inactive reserve in 1950 and served a year in Korea. He and Cecilia Langel were married Nov. 8, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Carroll with Monsignor P.T. Lynch officiating. Mr. Boes was a member of the Carroll Police Department from 1949 to 1979. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll American Legion, RSVP, Iowa State Police Association and the Association of Police and Peace Officers. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. He enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include his wife, Cecelia, of Carroll; a son, Robert Boes, and his wife, Vickie, of Carroll; two daughters: Margaret Melia and husband Mark of Omaha, Neb., and Mary Boes and husband Tim Dunbar of Iowa City; and two sisters-in-law: Laura Boes of Breda and Eleanor Boes of Carroll. Mr. Boes was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: William Boes, Julius Boes and wife Myrtle, Leonard Boes and wife Nina, Cletus Boes and the Rev. Norbert Boes; and a sister, Eleanora Steinkamp, and her husband, Henry.
