Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Silver Creek with military honors by the Silver Creek Post 263 Honor Guard. Mr. Sock was born May 7, 1930, in Nance County to Philip and Helen (Jareckl) Sock. Survivors of the immediate family include three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marianne Kozlol of Grand Island, Barbara and Bill Moore of Columbus, and Helen Marie Reimer of O'Neill; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Jan Sock of Loup City, John "Jack" and Alberta Sock of Silver Creek, and Phil and Sue Sock of Lincoln. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sock grew up in Polk and Merrick counties and attended District No. 23 and District No. 40 schools. He worked construction before entering the U.S. Army. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict from January 1951 to December 1952. After his military service he returned home where he started farming. In 1956, he started a land leveling business but continued to farm and feed cattle. In 1968, he purchased Havens Elevator and operated it until 1975. He continued farming until 1985 when he entered the horse racing business which he remained a part of until August 2002. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the American Legion Post No. 263, and the Horse Racing Association. Mr. Sock was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Sock; and a brother, James Sock. The Grand Island Independent, Feb. 2, 2003
