Hughes were married Wednesday evening at the Yeaton Home The marriage service was performed by Rev. Mr. Chapin of Laconia. The bride was attended by Mrs. Mae Hughes and the groom had as best man his brother, Cutting Hughes. It was a double ring service and Charlotte Hughes acted as flower girl. The young couple will make their home in the Read block on Main street. Mr. Hughes is employed by the Continental Paper Bag Co., and has been a prominent member of the Ashland town basketball team and Fire Department. >The Plymouth Record, December 27, 1930, v45, no52, p1. Today aunt Romenia is 99 years old. I visited her one evening two days ago and brought her a bouquet of flowers. She was cutting up strawberries for her freezer. We talked about the family, both current and past. Healthwise she was doing fine. >BLH Today aunt Romenia reached the century mark. I went straight from work to her home on Highland Street in Ashland to bring her one dozen dark red roses. He granddaughter and husband were visiting from Fort Collins, Colorado. Tomorrow some of the family will be going out to dinner and later in the afternoon there will be an open house for her. More then. >BLH. I just got word that Aunt Romenia died at the Franklin Hospil this afternoon. She is the last member of her generation in my family. >BLH. Romenia Minnie" Hughes, 100 of Highland Street died on April 21, 2007 at Franklin Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Born on June 2, 1906 in Plymouth she was the daughter of Edwin and Bessie Yeaton. Minnie grew up in Plymouth where she attended the Sargent District School on Texas Hill Road. In 1930 she was married to Melville Hughes on Christmas Eve and shared 59 years of marriage. Minnie was employed at John Guyer's Drug Store in Plymouth then at Fifield's store in Ashland for many years with her brother Joe Yeaton. She was a 75 year member of the Rebekahs and was a Noble Grand at one time. Among her hobbies are crewel embroidery, rug braiding, making lamp shades, and gardening. In 2003 at the age of 97 Minnie was presented the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of Ashland. Survirors include her daughter Betty O'Donnell of Ashland; grandson Sean O'Donnell of San Antonio, Texas; two granddaughters, Laurie DuBose of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mary Steadman of Gloucester Massachusetts; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a brother Russell "Joe" Yeaton of Ashland. A graveside service will be on Wednesday at 2 pm at Green Grove Cemetery in Ashland. Dupuis Funeral Home Ashland is handling arrangements. >Dupuis Funeral Home website.
