Grand Valley Star and Vidette, Date: Jan 1946, Page: 1, Type: Obituary The Star & Vidette, Thursday, January, 1946 - Front Page - EAST LUTHER YOUNG MAN KILLED IN MOTOR ACCIDENT - OTHER OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES: Ronald Eaton Martin, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Martin of lot 32, con. 11, East Luther township, was killed in a motor accident in Toronto on Tuesday night of last week. Deceased was in his 19th year. The accident occurred on the Lakeshore Road. The accident happened when the auto driven by Martin was in collision with a T.T.C. workcar, between Howard and Ellis Ave., at 1:00 a.m., as he was returning home from the annual Grand Valley Old Boys' and Girls' Dance at the Club Tophat. Police report the westbound auto was travelling between 20 and 25 miles an hour when its front wheels got caught in the street car tracks and the vehicle skidded into the workcar. The auto was almost demolished and several of the occupants were hurled to the roadway. Martin was crushed to death behind the steering wheel. The other occupants of the car were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hibbard and John Hardman of Grand Valley, George Soloman of Grand Valley and Miss Mary Jackson of Orangeville. All injured passengers were treated at St. Joseph's Hospital, but none were considered serious. John Hardman is still a patient at the hospital, and on Sunday his condition was much improved. Martin is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Martin of East Luther, one sister, Mrs. John Keeling, Amaranth, and four brothers, Vincent, Allan, Clifford and Harold, at home. Another brother, Pte. Russell Edwin Matin, was killed overseas on Dec. 13th, 1944. The remains were brought from Toronto, and private service was held at his late home on Thursday evening, January 24th. Public service was held at Sime's Funeral Home, Grand Valley, on Friday afternoon, January 25th, conducted by Rev. Mr. Warren, minister of Campania United Church. Interment followed in St. Alban's cemetery, Grand Valley. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Douglas Brayford, Ed. Morden, Selby Taylor, Earl Markle, Douglas Phillips and George
