Main St. Ron spent 39 years in the newspaper's sports department, working as sports editor, assistant sports editor and sportswriter. His relationship with the American News began when he started delivering papers at the age of 12. When he was in college in Wahpeton, N.D., he came home and worked in the mail room on weekends. Ron became a full-time employee of the American News in 1965, working in the back shop. In 1973 he moved to the sports department, where he remained until health problems forced him to retire in August 2012. Ron was a dedicated husband and father and a conscientious, hard-working employee. He covered many games in the area over the years. Later, he made sure the newspaper's coverage of the local sports scene was accurate and professional. Many times, Ron made phone calls to make sure that an athlete's name was spelled correctly. He was also quick to help customers. On his supper hour, he often delivered a newspaper to a subscriber who hadn't received that day's paper. Ron was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Ron was born in Leola April 6, 1944, to Reinhold and Hildegard Feickert. He graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1962. On July 5, 1964, he married Darlys Fluke at First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. Ron is survived by his wife, Darlys, Aberdeen, three sons: Erik (Marcela) of Aberdeen, the parents of Constantine and Isabella Feickert; Ross (Jennifer) of Sioux City, Iowa, the parents of Erik Jason Feickert, Katie Hoover and Lizzie Hoover, and Bret (Jessica) of Aberdeen, the parents of Trinity Feickert and Noemi Picazo. Ron is also survived by one sister, Lucynda Hackler, Stevens Point, Wis.; a brother, Milo Hirning, Springfield, three nieces and seven nephews. He was preceded in death by Reinhold Feickert, Walter and Hildegard Hirning; and four brothers-in-law, Roger Hackler, and Gene, Dean and James Fluke.
