He died Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Tristar Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee due to complications of COVID-19. Read More	Ronald Merlyn Best, age 67, of Aplington, Iowa was born the son of Mervin and Verna (Groeneveld) Best on February 23, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa. He died Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Tristar Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee due to complications of COVID-19. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the Aplington Baptist Church in Aplington, Iowa in 1964. He received his education from the Aplington High School and graduated in 1972. During the summer of 1971 he was a foreign exchange student in Germany. He later furthered his education at the University of Northern Iowa for two years and then graduated with an associate's degree from the Business Institute of Technology in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ron lived in the Cedar Falls and New Hartford area and worked for John Deere from 1974 to 1976. He then moved to rural Aplington to work on the family farm with his father. He retired from farming in 2018. On June 16, 2013, Ron was married to Terri Sue Pruisner, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in Allison, Iowa. Ron was a faithful member of Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he sang for many years in church choir and men's quartet, served as a trustee, elder and Sunday school superintendent. Ron loved singing. He was a former member of the Proud Image Chorus (barbershop) in Waterloo for many years. He enjoyed fishing, especially to Minnesota at Big Winnie and Bow String Shores. Some of his favorite things were John Deere tractors and his dogs. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's ball games and music concerts. Ron passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Tristar Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee, due to complications of COVID-19. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Claire Byl. Ron is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Terri Best, of Aplington; three daughters: Jamie (Shannon) Reinke of Geneva, Kelley (Shawn) Rotgers of Ackley and Angela Best (Craig Bailey) of Iowa Falls; one son, Christopher (Christon) Best of Winona, Minnesota; and three step-sons, Nicholas (Sarah) Wiegmann of Allison, Michael (Samantha) Wiegmann of Mason City and Logan Wiegmann of Waterloo; ten grandchildren: Ben Reinke, Nick Reinke, KaiCee Rotgers, Trinity Rotgers, Jenna Rotgers, Addyson Best, Gabrielle Best, Taylor Wiegmann, Ava Wiegmann, Ryne Wiegmann, and one grandson on the way; three nephews and their families: Scott (Melody) Byl, Kevin (Katrina) Byl, and Jeremy (Hilary Cameron) and many cousins. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church. His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Aplington Evangelical Presbyterian Church with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery.
