Description	:	Ronald Roy Gordon passed peacefully and quickly from this life in his home on February 12, 2008. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him. Ronald was born on May 25, 1925, in a farm home on Zook Spur Road about 3 miles south of Madrid, Iowa, son of Roy Ellsworth Gordon and Jessie Pearl (Dennis) Gordon. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him. Ronald was born on May 25, 1925, in a farm home on Zook Spur Road about 3 miles south of Madrid, Iowa, son of Roy Ellsworth Gordon and Jessie Pearl (Dennis) Gordon. Ronald lived in the Madrid and Woodward area almost all of his life. He began grade school at the Prairie rural school southeast of Madrid and attended the Christian Church there. He then attended high school at Woodward. When his Dad left the farm to operate the DX station in Woodward, Ronald worked with him in the station for a time. On March 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Virginia Maxine Ball. They lived in Woodward for a short time and then moved to Des Moines for 3 years. While in Des Moines, Ronald worked for the Green Colonial Furnace Company and the Des Moines Waterworks. When the John Deere factory opened in Ankeny he went to work there. He was active in helping to establish the United Auto Workers Union local 450 at John Deere where they were on strike for 6 months until John Deere accepted the union. He worked at John Deere for 16 years until he quit in 1963, and went to full time farming. Farming was Ronald's life. From the time that he and Virginia first got married and lived in Des Moines, their goal was to leave the city and get back out into the country. In 1950, Ronald bought acreage SE of Woodward and escaped the city. Then in 1954, he and Virginia moved to a 40 acre farm south of Madrid and were blessed with a son, Darwin in June. They lived there until he was able to purchase a larger farm in 1971, where he lived until his death. Ron was always proud of his two grandchildren, Raena and Seth. He took care of them and taught them a great many things about farming and life from the time they were first born. He always went to their school and 4-H activities and especially enjoyed watching them ride in the local horse shows. Another of Ron's passions was new machinery. Nothing made him happier than to purchase or be around modern farm equipment. One only has to look in the machine sheds on the family farm to see that. He spent the entire day walking around and looking at the new products at the Iowa Power Farming Show in Des Moines, just two weeks prior to his passing. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Leta Dawson, Velma Bieghler and Elsie Grant and one brother, Thomas Gordon. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; son, Darwin; daughter in law, Janice; two grandchildren, Raena and Seth; brother, La Verne Gordon and wife Frances Gordon and three nephews.
