BRINKMAN GOES TO REWARD 1831-1916 ____ Aged Resident Succumbed to Attack of Bronohial Pneumonia on Friday Night at 10 O'clock ____ WAS ILL BUT A WEEK ____ Decedent Was Born in Germany in 1831, But Came to This Country With Parents in 1880. _____ Another of Keokuk's pioneer citizens has heard the last far call. Mrs. Rosa Ellen Brinkman, a resident of this city for sixty-four years, passed away at the family home, 1002 Bank street at 10 o'clock Friday night from bronchial pneumonia. The decedent had been failing for the past ten years and when she became ill from the above cause just a week ago, her system was not strong enough for her to make a successful fight against the disease, and at the full, round age of eighty-four, her connection with this world was severed last night. Mrs. Brinkman was one of the city's most highly esteemed women and her friends were numbered by the score and all have been sincerely grieved by news of her death. Mrs. Brinkman's maiden name was Rosa Ellen Kraft and she was born in Koengrich Beiren in Obrotherback, Germany on August 12, 1831. The Kraft family came to the United States in the year 1850 and settled first in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where nine months were spent. The family then removed to Keokuk and this city had been the decedent's home since that time. Her marriage to J. William Brinkman occurred in Keokuk in July 1853. Mr. Brinkman died here thirty-five years ago. To this union ten children were born of which number, eight survive. They are: Mrs. J. C. Vezina, Ellsworth, Wisconsin; Mrs. F. J. Meinberg, Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. O. Linquist, Monmouth, Ill.; Ed H. Brinkman, Decatur, Ill.; Fred Brinkman, St. Louis, Mo.; and J. William Brinkman. Mrs. R. E. Hunt and Mill Alice Brinkman of this city. A son, Henry died in infancy, and another son, Geo A. Brinkman, died here three years ago. Nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive. The decedent was a member of St. Paul's German Evangelical church and was a devout and conscientions church member. She was of a gentle and kindly disposition and found her chief interest in her church and home. Her many virtues endeared her to all of her friends and acquaintances. The funeral will be held on Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Paul's Evangelical church and the services will be conducted by Rev. A. C. Ernst. (Contributed by: No Reins (#46595053))
