ROSA KANAL PASSES AWAY Mrs. Rosa Hunzeker Kanal, 83, passed away Monday, July 25, 1960 at the Humboldt Hospital. She had been in failing health the past 1 1/2 years but had been hospitalized only a week. Rosa Hunzeker Kanel, daughter of the late Jacob and Maria Hunzeker was born April 2, 1877 at the family home southwest of Humboldt. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. John's Reformed Church of Dry Branch. She was united in marriage on March 23, 1899 to Rudolph Kanel The couple established their home in the Four Mile community. Mr. Kanel died of typhoid fever on September 7, 1906. Shortly thereafter she moved with her three children, Oscar, Velma and Florence to Humboldt where she resided until her death. She was both mother and father to her children, never counting any sacrifice too great. Her life was devoted to her church, family and friends.. So long as her health permitted she worked faithfully in the Presbyterian Church of which she was a member. She is survived by her son Oscar Kanel of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Warren Gergens of Humboldt and Mrs. Florence Keith of Phoenix, Arizona; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, John Hunzeker of Humboldt and Emil Hunzeker of Pawnee City; 3 sisters, Mrs. Lucy Bucher, Miss Freda Hunzeker and Mrs. George Meister all of the Humboldt area. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Albert Fenn will officiate. Burial will be in the Four Mile Cemetery (Thanks goes to researcher Barbara Schwartz for sending this obituary.)
