JACOB R. HUNZEKER Maria Anna Hunzeker was born in Gontenschwil Canton, Aurgau, Switzerland, on the 22nd of February 1855, and passed from this life the 18th of June, 1942, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Meister, of Humboldt. She attended school, received instruction, and was confirmed in the Reformed Church of Switzerland. In 1869, she and her brother, Rudolph, came to the united States accompanied by an uncle, Samuel Geiger. They settled at Steinauer with relatives. In 1870 she was married to Jacob R. Hunzeker and moved to a home on Dry Branch. To this union 12 children were born. Two died in infancy. Eight children survive: Mrs. Rosa Kanel, Mrs. Fred Bucher, Emil Hunzeker, John J. Hunzer, Miss Freda Hunzeker, Jacob H. Huzeker, Herbert W. Hunzeker, and Mrs. George Meister. She is also survived by her brother, Rudolph, of Gridley, Calif.; 47 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died September 9, 1919; a daughter, Mary Sommerhalder, in 1917; and a son, Fred, in 1936. She and her husband, Jacob R. Hunzeker, were charter members at the founding of St. John's Reformed church. Services were conducted at the Evangelical Reformed Church, in the Dry Branch community Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, by Dr. J. C. Horning, of St. Joseph, Mo., assisted by Rev. H. D. Johnson, of Pawnee City, and Rev. Conrad Iffert of St. Joseph, Mo. Music was rendered by the grandchildren. At the home, "Asleep in Jesus" was sung by the choir. At the church the following hymns were rendered during the services: "Still, Still With Thee," "Come Unto Me," and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were grandsons: J. Edwin Hunzeker, Paul Hunzeker, Wilmer Hunzeker, Jacob Hunzeker, Fred Bucher, Jr., and Kenneth Hunzeker. Burial was in the Pawnee City cemetery.
