She was born October 3, 1920 in Horatio, Arkansas to Samuel R. and Jessie I. Gore Simer. She was a retired owner/operator of a Southern Maid Donut and Cake Decorating Shop in De Queen, Arkansas for many years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 241 in De Queen. Mrs. VanMeter was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry H. VanMeter on April 4, 1986; three sisters, Garland McNully, Bonnie Canady and Perry Cearley; two brothers, Dale and Arnold Simer. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Loretta DeLord of Texarkana, Texas and Judy and Mark Rodgers of Forney, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen VanMeter of Texarkana, Texas; one brother-in-law, Dave McNully of North Little Rock, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. VanMeter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2009 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with burial following in the Millwee Cemetery .
