Description	:	As a result of blood poisoning caused by a very painful carbuncle which had aggravated him for some three or four weeks, Roscoe B. Harlan, son of Hiram and An Harlan, passed away in a Keokuk hospital Saturday Morning, January 17th, 1920. Word of his death came as a shock to the entire community as the seriousness of his condition was not realized. As was his nature he remained cheerful until the very last. He was born near Hillsboro, Iowa, December 2nd, 1875, making him forty-four years, one month and fifteen days of age at the time of his death.... Harlan, son of Hiram and An Harlan, passed away in a Keokuk hospital Saturday Morning, January 17th, 1920. Word of his death came as a shock to the entire community as the seriousness of his condition was not realized. As was his nature he remained cheerful until the very last. He was born near Hillsboro, Iowa, December 2nd, 1875, making him forty-four years, one month and fifteen days of age at the time of his death. Hillsboro and community has been his home during these four and a half decades with the exception of ten years spent in Warsaw, Illinois. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Holmes June 16, 1908. To this union were born two boys, Earl age ten and Gerald, aged seven. He leaves to mourn their loss both parents, his companion and sons all whom reside in Hillsboro. He also leaves a brother, Benjamin, besides many near relatives and a host of friends. The fact of his many friends was evidenced by the multitude in attendance at the funerals service held in the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. J. E. Bruner in charge. Despite the season of the year the floral offerings were many and rare. Interment was made in the Hillsboro cemetery. Note: in his obit it stated that he was born in 1875 but the head stone said 1970, so that is the date I used.
