We have no doubts about where he is because he lived his life consistent with his professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Mr. Pittman was the son of the late D. I. (Dalton Irving) and Cenie McCracken Pittman. He was a widower of the late Elizabeth Burns Pittman. He was born in 1919 on the Pittman family farm near Tygerville, where he lived for most of his life. Mr. Pittman was a veteran of WWII having served in the European theatre of war. He was also a retiree of the U.S. Air Force and the Georgia Air National Guard. Mr. Pittman was a member of Choice Hills Baptist Church in Travelers Rest. He was active in the service of his church and for his Lord having served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, song leader, soul-winner and general worker. He enjoyed hands-on work improving the church facilities but he was willing to do whatever was needed. Mr. Pittman's life is best summarized by Christ's two great commandments to "love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind" and to "love thy neighbour as thyself (Matthew 22:37-40)." Roscoe Pittman passionately loved God with his whole being. He also loved people whom he enjoyed helping with their needs. He was unselfish and generous in aiding others. Only time and eternity will reveal his good works to the praise and glory of God. Although Roscoe Pittman will be missed, we do not sorrow as those with no hope (I Thessalonians 4:13-18) because we are "[l]ooking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13)." Visitation will be 7:00 ? 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at Wood Mortuary of Greer and funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at Choice Hills Baptist Church 5910 Old Buncombe Road Greenvile, SC. Interment will be Wood Memorial Park in Duncan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be donated to Tabernacle Children's Home at 3931 White Horse Road Greenville, SC 29611-5546 or Choice Hills Baptist Church of 5910 Old Buncombe Road Greenville, SC 29609-0921 Published in The Greenville News on March 4, 2011
