Read More	Rose Kastner April 11, 1903-Nov. 18, 2005 Rose Clara Kastner was born April 11, 1903, the daughter of Otto and Alma Zable Schug. She died Friday, November 18, 2005 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison having attained the age of 102. Rose grew up on a farm in Grant Township, near Ida Grove, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she remained at home and helped her family in addition to caring for her younger sister, Velda. She was baptized in Christ as an infant, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church near her home. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Kastner January 28, 1925 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township. The couple settled on the farm they purchased in Hanover Township where they farmed for twenty-eight years and were blessed with the birth of two children. They remained on the farm until they retired and moved to Schleswig in 1952. She was a loving wife and mother who cared for her family with devotion, enjoying socializing with them throughout her life. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing many items, but was especially fond of sewing Barbie doll dresses. Rose enjoyed cooking and baking and had a vegetable garden. She enjoyed caring for the flowers in her flower garden that included many rose bushes which she trimmed and received great pleasure in sharing with others. She was always up for a game of cards, especially euchre and bridge and was a member of several card clubs in addition to Dorcas and Ladies Guild at the church. She has been a long and devoted member of United Church of Christ in Schleswig. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gilbert, four brothers, Walter, Art, Herman and Erwin Schug, one sister, Minnie Brodersen and one grandson-in-law, Tom Hibbing. Survivors include two sons, Verdell Kastner and his wife, Marlyn of Denison; Rawlo Kastner and his wife, Rubie of Schleswig; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step-great-grandchildren, four step-great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Velda Pierson of White Bear, Minnesota. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, at United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Pastor Chris Burtnett officiated the services and grave side rites at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Wendy Bumann provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "Rock of Ages Cleft for Me" and "In the Garden." The soloist was Rubie Kastner, daughter-in-law of Rose. She sang "How Great Thou Art." The pallbearers were grandsons Ross and Mark Kastner, great-grandsons, Aric and Nick Zimmer, Tanner Kastner and grand son-in-laws Bruce Klohn and Duane Zimmer. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid and Staley's Catering Service.
