A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, June 14, 10:30 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church (12.5 miles North) with Rev. Brad Birtell officiating, Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Rose was born July 6, 1920, on the family farm near Creston, Nebraska to Charles and Anna (Hoesly) Marx. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Creston. She attended Country School District 53, Platte County, Creston Public High School, and Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. Rose worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. during WWII. She was engaged to Elmer Kapels before the war and upon his return they were united in marriage on September 30, 1945, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Creston. They lived on the family farm where Rose Ellen was born. To this union five children were born. Elmer passed away in 1977. On February 14, 1984, Rose married Malvern “Buddy” Kapels at St John’s Lutheran Church, rural Columbus. Rose worked at the Creston Bank for many years until she retired in her 70’s. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid and Missionary Aid. Rose also belonged to the Keynoter’s Singing Group of Creston and Leigh, Pieper Post American Legion Auxiliary, and pinochle club. She enjoyed playing sheepshead, the piano, dancing, swimming, and all music. Rose liked watching her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities. She greatly enjoyed all family gatherings and social functions. Rose was an example of strong faith, conviction, and unconditional love.
