She is survived by her children, John, Daniel, Julianne Dunn Herzog, Kevin, Timothy, Mary Elizabeth Cotterell, Dale Eugene, Michael, Patrick and Margaret Dunn; grandchildren, Jenevra, Sean, Molly, Katie, Kaylea, Sarah, Michaela, Regina, Andrea, Elizabeth, Cheryl, Kelly, Janet, Jeremy, Jack, Dan, Luke, Jake, Cole, Jillian, Hazel, Lyla, Emma, Alyssa and Nick, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; sister Margaret Ann Buchan. Rosemary was raised in Sioux City, Iowa. Her father died when she was quite young and her mother raised her. She met her husband Dale when he was in school at Morningside College in Sioux City, where he was studying for a degree in Music. Dale enlisted in the service in 1942 and served in WWII as a P-51 pilot flying bomber escort from England on 70 missions. Dale named his plane RED ROSE after his girlfriend in Sioux City. When he returned from the war they were married. Dale entered Creighton Medical School and they started a family. Dale and Rosemary moved to Estherville, Iowa where they lived until Dale moved his practice to Omaha in 1963. The family continued to grow and Dale's practice flourished while Rosemary continued to raise their ten children. Following Dale's death Rosemary lived in Omaha and continued to be quite active in the community especially supporting Creighton Prep functions, the school from which six Dunn children graduated. She was also active in Creighton University Medical School functions where many of her children and grandchildren graduated with varying degrees. In 2005 she moved to Minneapolis and lived there with three of her children. She lived at River Village, a memory care facility of Catholic Eldercare. River Village is attached to St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and Rosemary attended services there on a regular basis. Rosemary was a kind and loving person who spent her life caring for others. She waited faithfully for her future husband, as he returned from the war, raising ten children and devoting her time and energy to her family and her faith. She was always quick with a smile and she had a cheery disposition. She was truly loved by all. She was a great teammate to her thriving family, a real cheerleader for her husband and children. She was a person of deep faith and principle guided by her Catholic beliefs. She was surrounded by friends and family throughout her life and those relationships were particularly meaningful later in life after she lost the companionship of her husband, Dale. Mom is now with Dad where she has always wanted to be. The road finally rose up to meet her. Driven to see her 10 children smile, she once tied a toboggan to the back of her Chrysler station wagon, drove up to the high school track in Estherville, Iowa, and careened around the turns of the track as her children skidded across the snowy wake. "My mom always wanted to make us have fun," said daughter Julianne Herzog. Dunn died Sunday at RiverVillage, a Catholic memory care facility in Minneapolis, at age 91. Born Rosemary C. Walsh in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1922, she met her eventual husband Dale while he studied music at Morningside College. In 1942, Dale enlisted to fight in World War II, where he piloted a P-51 fighter plane nicknamed "Red Rose," after his red-haired Rosemary back home. When Dale returned from the war, the two married. After Dale earned his medical degree from Creighton University, the couple moved to Estherville, where they began to raise a family. Dale moved his medical practice to Omaha in 1963. Herzog said her mother was involved in "all the usual doctor's wife things," plus some. She and her husband were members of the Creighton University parents advisory board, were active at Creighton Prep, Duchesne and Marian High Schools, and were inducted into the Creighton Prep Hall of Fame in 1995. In her spare time, Dunn liked to ride horses or spend time with her friends bowling in a league or playing doubles tennis at Hanscom Park or the Westroads Racquet Club. "My mother had a host of friends," Herzog said. "People loved her, and she loved them. She just had a wonderful flair for friendship." Husband Dale died in 1997. Besides her daughter Julianne, Dunn is survived by her sister Margaret Ann Buchan; children John, Daniel, Kevin, Timothy, Mary Elizabeth Cotterell, Dale Eugene, Michael, Patrick and Margaret Dunn; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today with a wake service at 7 p.m. at the 72nd Street Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Church on the Creighton University campus. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
