Description	:	Funeral service for Rose Rattei, 88, of Ashley was held Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Carlsen Funeral Home. The Rev. Tammy Toepke-Floyd officated. Burial in St. James Lutheran Cemetery rural SE of Ashley. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rose Nitschke, daughter of Gottlieb and Christina (Feichtner) Nitschke was born May 20, 1923 six miles SE of Ashley on the family homestead. This is where she grew up while attending country school. She worked on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Jacob Edwin Rattei on June 6, 1943 in St. James Lutheran Church SE of Ashley in 1947. She was a homemaker until her children were raised. She then worked for seven years at McIntosh County Memorial Hospital. For 18 years, she was a part-time Green Thumb worker and also for 23 years a part-time Senior Companion. She also worked at Blumhardt Manufacturing and did childcare for others. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. She was a wonderful German cook and loved to entertain others. People will always remember her hats and sensational clothing. Spending time with her grandchildren was very important to her and she always enjoyed traveling. Survivors include three sons, Lester (Robin) Rattei of Pierre, SD, Stanley (Sheila) Rattei of Ashley and Dennis (Lori) Rattei of Bemidji, MN, one daughter, Melinda (Harry) Geiszler of White, SD, one brother, Leonard Nitschke of Coon Rapids, MN, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband Jacob, 12 brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Casket bearers will be all of Rose's grandchildren. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
