Description	:	Jacob "Jake" Edwin Rattei, 87, of Ashley went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2008 at the Ashley Medical Center. Jacob Edwin Rattei, son of Jacob E. and Matilda (Dobler) Rattei was born May 5, 1920 on a farm six miles southwest of Lehr, ND. He attended country school near the family farm. He later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he learned auto body repair. He was united in marriage to Rosina Nitschke on June 6, 1943 southeast of Ashley near a Nitschke family farm. Read More	Jacob "Jake" Edwin Rattei, 87, of Ashley went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2008 at the Ashley Medical Center. Jacob Edwin Rattei, son of Jacob E. and Matilda (Dobler) Rattei was born May 5, 1920 on a farm six miles southwest of Lehr, ND. He attended country school near the family farm. He later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he learned auto body repair. He was united in marriage to Rosina Nitschke on June 6, 1943 southeast of Ashley near a Nitschke family farm. They lived in Ashley, where he owned and operated the Ashley Body Shop and worked actively with his sons at various times for over 45 years. After retiring from his business, he did knife and saw sharpening for several years. He was then united in marriage to Esther (Unruh) Aipperspach on March 15, 2003 at Bismarck Faith Lutheran Church at Bismarck, ND. They had dated in the late 1930's and rekindled their love and friendship in 2001. They made their home in Ashley. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing the "bones" (wooden clappers) to polka music, playing the button accordion, drawing and painting, and creating wooden projects. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church at Ashley. Survivors include his wife, Esther of Ashley, three sons, Lester (Robin) Rattei of Pierre, SD, Stanley (Sheila) Rattei of Ashley and Dennis (Lori) Rattei of Bemidji, Minnesota, one daughter, Melinda (Harry) Geiszler of Madison, SD, two step-daughters, Wanda Heidrick of Strasburg, ND and Lorie (Mike) Adolf of Dickinson, ND, one step-son, James (Rosie) Aipperspach of Des Moines, Iowa, one sister, Nora Heupel of Hettinger, ND, nine grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 23 step-great-grandchildren. His parents, two sisters, Ella Teske and Esther Nitschke, one step-daughter, Norma Jean Schlenvogt and one grandson, Cory Rattei preceded him in death. Honorary Casketbearers will be Sam Geist, Willie Winger, Adolph Rueb, Stanley Dobler, Elery Scherbenske and Reinie Bendewald. Casketbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Rattei, Andrew Rattei, Adam Rattei, Gregory Geiszler, Derrick Geiszler and Joshua Lematta. The organist will be Marcia Davis and there will be special music by Lorie Adolf, Kristin Ridl and Kari Adolfhley Medical Center. Funeral service for Jacob "Jake" Edwin Rattei will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. The Kyle Reinhiller will officiate. Burial will be in Ashley City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-9 pm at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church. The family prefers memorials be made to Madison Christian School, 45369 234th St., Madison, SD 57042. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
