Description	:	Ross A. Heminger, 90, a lifelong resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at the Parkside Rehab and Care Center in Wenatchee. He was born on Oct. 20, 1906, at Granville, N.D., to Oliver E. and Effie I. (Kabrich) Heminger. Ross, one of 10 children, moved with his family in the spring of 1907, to the Wenatchee Valley by train. He was born on Oct. 20, 1906, at Granville, N.D., to Oliver E. and Effie I. (Kabrich) Heminger. Ross, one of 10 children, moved with his family in the spring of 1907, to the Wenatchee Valley by train. He left Wenatchee for a time to attend college at La Verne, Calif. for one year and then attended part of one year at the University of Washington. He returned from college to work in the orchard business. He managed a fruit warehouse business from 1928 until 1945. In 1945, it was formed into a cooperative association, where he served as manager until his retirement in 1971. On Nov. 27, 1934, he married Glenda M. Neher here in Wenatchee. Mr. Heminger was an active member of this community. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the YMCA in 1931. He served until 1937, two of those years as president. He later served on the YMCA Trustee Board from 1949 to 1960. In 1939, he was elected to the Hospital Board and served here continuously until 1982, serving 12 years as president of the board. He served 14 years as president and directed finance campaigns in 1948 and 1954. He was elected and served eight years as a member of the board of Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago for the Church of the Brethren. He was also elected to the Trustee Board of La Verne College and served three years. Mr. Heminger was a member of the Washington State Council of Farmer Cooperatives. He served three years as the president of the State Council and eight years on the board. In 1940, he was appointed by Gov. Black of the Farm Credit Board, to serve on the Grower Financing Board for the RACC when it came to Wenatchee to finance fruit growers. In 1948, he was elected to the Board of Northwest Wholesale. He served on the board for 23 years, six years of which as the president. In 1953, he was elected to the Greater Wenatchee Irrigation District. He was called to Washington, D.C., to testify for funds to build the Greater Wenatchee Irrigation Project. He served as president of the board on a rotation basis. He was appointed a member of the Arthur D. Little task force to study and make recommendations to set up state community colleges. He served on the first Board of Wenatchee Valley College for five years, two of which he served as the president. In 1958 he was elected to the Douglas County Public Utility Board and served five years until 1963. He served as the secretary when Wells Dam financing was accomplished and subsequently signed bonds to borrow $187 million to build Wells Dam. In 1973 he was elected to the State Board of Irrigation Districts. In 1975 he was elected vice president of the State Board and chairman of the Legislative Committee. In 1974 he was appointed by Gov. Evans to serve on the Alternatives for Washington Program and served until 1977. Mr. Heminger was a member of the Wenatchee Rotary Club since 1940, serving as the president from 1946-1947. He had 49 years of perfect attendance with Wenatchee Rotary. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Mr. Heminger was an avid reader and because of his involvement with the Hospital Board for so many years, the library at Central Washington Hospital was named the Ross A. Heminger Health Sciences Library. In 1995, Mr. Heminger received the Central Washington Hospital Foundation's Spirit of A.Z. Wells Award. Mr. Heminger was a lifelong member of the Wenatchee Brethren Baptist Church United. He held many offices in the church as well as teaching Sunday School and leading Bible studies for over 30 years. Survivors include his son, Marc C. Heminger of Wenatchee; three daughters, Leanne Ford of Wenatchee, Merry Kay Shaw and Linda Vickery, both of East Wenatchee; his sister, Erma Bolinger of Yakima; his 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda, in January of 1996, by his parents, by two brothers and by six sisters. Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Directors of Wenatchee.
