He had been in poor health for a year or longer, but has last serious sickness was for but a couple days, and the nows of his death, when it reached Villisca, was a most emphatic shock. Mr. Moore was a young man, just in his prime, aged 28 years, 9 months, and 22 days, and leaves a wife a few years his junior. Both were tow of Villisca’s most esteemed young people during their residence here and in their new homes, which they made in Shenandoah, Iowa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and St. Joseph, Missouri, made may friends, who, with a large number of relatives feel deeply the sorrow over a death that has wrecked a promising business career and a most delightful home life. Mr. Moore was born in Valley township, Page County, Iowa, June 3, 1882, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Moore. The mother died about nine years ago, Mr. Moore and family moved to Villisca where they have resided since. Mr. Moore began his business career as a clerk in a drug store in Villisca and was employed there for a number of years. He was married December 26, 1906, to Miss Hulda Hilmiller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Himiller. The following September they moved to Shenandoah, where Mr. Moore had purchased a restaurant and bakery and during the two years he was there he build up what was generally conceded to be a run down business into one of the best paying enterprises of its kind in this section of the state. He made friends in Shenandoah just as fast as he made acquaintances became a member of the Brotherly Protective Order of Elks, Shenandoah Lodge, No. 1122, and he and Mrs. Moore joined the Royal Highlanders in that city. Both were popular with the social set and it was with keen regret the Shenandoah saw them move away. Mr. Moore then started a tobacco and new store at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but was compelled to give up the business there on account of his health, which was not benefited by the climate. Last October they went to St. Joseph, Missouri and engaged in the tobacco, news, and confectionary business in that city, enjoying a good business. When word of his death reached Villisca, his father, J. W. Moore, his sisters, Miss Pearl, and Mrs. J. L. Himiller immediately joined the grief stricken wife and the body was brought to Villisca and the funeral was held Tuesday afternoon of half past two o’clock at the Christian Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. T. Loomis and in charge of the Elks Lodge of Shenandoah, members of which attended the funeral in a body. The services were attended by more than the church could accommodate, the large number of relatives and so many friends finding it impossible to hear Rev. Loomis’ very excellent sermon. Many beautiful flowers attested the esteem in which the deceased was held, were piled high on his bier. The Elks Lodge of Shenandoah conducted the services following Rev. Loomis and the ritual was read by J. A. Masters, acting in the place of the Exalted Ruler, who was unable to attend. Rev. R. Ellery, the chaplain of the lodge, also assisted in the work, and the lodge escorted the body to the cemetery, and held a short service there. The pall bearers were; C. M. Replogle, Frank Anshutz, Alonzo Beach, R. M. Poutchard, Dr. E. S. White, and F. E. West, all fellow members of the Elks Lodge of Shenandoah. Other elks who attended were; William Hughes and wife, Elmer Redfield and wife, N. E. Weyer and wife, Edaworth Beach and his wife, George Oxley, James Crone, F. E. Ward, G. E. Nesh, Eugene LeBarow, Chas. young, Wm, McMahill, Burnett Ferguson, Oliver Shafer, F. P. Nye, John Strickler, and Ed Fletcher. Besides his father and wife, Mr. Moore is survived by his brother, F. L. Moore of Oskaloosa, and two sisters, Pearl and Mrs. F. c. Brislin of St. Joseph. All the members of the families, as well as Mrs. F. C. Brislin and Mrs. F. L.
