She is preceded in death by her husband, Delmer E. Van Horn; grandson, Mark Hughes; one sister, Eula Post; and two brothers, Floris and Warren Randolph. She was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Baptist denomination. Rowena graduated from Salem College. Her life was filled with many aspects, including: School teacher, homemaker, pastor's wife, cook extraordinaire, seamstress, crocheting, Baptist World Alliance secretary, library assistant, SDB Women's Board member and church secretary. As pastor's wife, she served with her husband at the Seventh Day Baptist churches of Little Genesee, NY, Hebron, PA, Adams Center, NY, Washington, D.C., and Lost Creek, WV. She served on camp staff in whatever capacity was needed at Camp Harmony for the Central NY Association of Seventh Day Baptists and at Camp Joy for the Appalachian Association of Seventh Day Baptist Churches. She loved the Lord and her family. She received great joy in seeing each of them grow in Christ and serve Him. She was delighted to live for her 90th birthday and enjoyed reading her many cards and letters over and over again, remarking what a full and varied life the Lord had given her, a "simple country girl." She continued to the end with dignity, always concerned for the welfare of others around her, sharing her great love for everyone who visited and served her in the nursing home. Services will be held at the Greathouse Funeral Home in Salem, with visitation from 7-9 p.m. Monday. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Brian Shaffer will preside. Interment will follow in the K of P Cemetery, Salem. (The Herald Record, July 26, 2005)
