"Buck" Hedges, 84, of Miles City passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City. Mr. Hedges was born in Forsyth on Aug. 28, 1925, the son of Edward and Lucille McCool Hedges. He attended country school at Ingomar. Following his schooling, he entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and he also served in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved to Forsyth where he worked at available local jobs. Mr. Hedges worked for Lou Richardson Construction, traveling to various locations. He did many tasks with Richardson's but primarily he operated the rock crusher for the operation. In 1957, when family size began to increase, he moved to Miles City, beginning employment as a mechanic with the city of Miles City and retired as shop foreman in 1988. He married Margaret Lee Ellison on Sept. 11, 1946, at Forsyth. She died on Feb. 8, 1994. Mr. Hedges married Dorothy Riggs on Nov. 14, 1998, at Miles City. He loved gardening, woodworking, photography and fixing anything. Mr. Hedges was a member of the Elks and the American Legion. His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hedges of Miles City; two sons: Roy Patrick (Susan) Hedges and Rodney Kirk Hedges, both of Miles City; three daughters: Melissa Carol Hedges, Penny Rene Hedges and Audrey Lee (Rob) Pengelly, all of Billings; three step-sons: Steven (Kathy) Riggs of Billings, Brian (Heather) Riggs of Miles City and Kenneth (Bonnie) Riggs of Miles City; two brothers: Bill Hedges of Hysham and Rocky Hedges of Aberdeen, S.D.; two sisters: Viola Zeimet and Sandy Kanta, both of Melstone; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment followed in the Custer County Cemetery with full military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars
