Roy Earl Walker, was born on December 20, 1882, in Jasper County, the son of Richard and Dorothy Baker Walker. He grew to manhood in Jasper County and received his education in the rural schools of that area. He later attended CCCC Business College in Des Moines. On July 12, 1910, he married Tilla Rasp. They farmed for six years in Clark, South Dakota, when they returned to Jasper County, he operated a cream route and produce business out of Newburg and later out of Gilman. When his son entered the service he joined his sons in the Walker Grocery where he was still active. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1939, a sister, and a brother. Surviving are three sons and a daughter, Denver, Orville, and Wendell Walker all of Gilman, and Mrs. James Butcher of Newton. Also surviving are grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters and a brother, Glen Walker of Grinnell, Mrs. Gertrude Cox of Newburg, Mrs. Clayton Millard of Santa Ana, California, and Mrs. Glen Frye of San Diego, California; and a great-aunt, Mrs. Carrie Dowley of Grinnell. Mr. Walker was a member of the Gilman Methodist Church and had been affiliated with the IOOF Lodge for several years.
