Read More	Roy Harrison Johnston, age 87 of Albia, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Roy was born March 30, 1926, to Hugh Harrison and Minnie Esta(Barnhill)Johnston in Pershing, IA. He married Lucille DeCet on January 23, 1954 in Unionville, MO. Roy grew up and attended school in Pershing. He worked at Hotel Ottumwa for a short time as a bellhop, built railroad bridges, and was a carpenter before joining the United States Army during World War II. After the military he worked at Morrell's in Ottumwa, and when they closed, he and Lucille moved to Albia and started a dairy farm. Roy was a member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple before moving to Albia, where he became a member of the Albia Baptist Temple. He enjoyed roses, wathching sports, cutting wood and raising chickens. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Roy always considered himself a simple man, but there was nothing simple about him. He could do many things. Roy is survived by his wife, Lucille of Albia; two children, Hugh(Mary)Johnston of Albia and Thressa(Alan)Branding of Raymond, NE; nine grandsons and one granddaughter, Alivia Branding; one great grandson; and two sisters, Violet Scott of Knoxville and Eva Taylor of Lacona, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Everett Johnston; and six sisters, Alice Kridelbaugh, Betty Six, Jenny Provenzano, Leta Beaver, Bernice in infancy, and Eugenia in infancy. Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the Albia Baptist Temple, with Pastor Brian Harris officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa with military rites. Visitation will be 3 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Roy's family present from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, an open memorial has been established in Roy's name.
