He was born one hour after his fraternal twin brother, Ray, to Ralph and Alice (Johnston) Martin. In 1937, as the Great Depression worsened, the family moved to Dinuba, California, where he attended area schools. During World War II he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a personnel clerk while stationed on Saipan Island and attained the rank of yeoman third class. After being honorably discharged, Roy graduated from College of the Sequoias with an associate degree in commerce and from Armstrong University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In September 1949, he was licensed to practice accounting in California, and he opened his business office in Chico. At the time of his death he was semi-retired. Roy married Priscilla Jane Wyckoff in Reno, Nevada, on September 28, 1953. Two children were born to them, Richard and Ronald. Roy was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for their welfare. Since 1969 he was a communicant member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and served as treasurer for many years. The funeral service, which emphasized the resurrection of Jesus Christ, was followed by interment at Glen Oaks.-Submitted by Richard Roy Martin, via email received July 13, 2016.
