In 1989 he relocated back to his home state. He then married a long-time friend, Margorie Gehrung. She passed away in 1996. Roy was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Ann Campbell (Doug) of Ojai and his grandson, James Rigler of Santa Barbara. Roy was retired from the US Forest Service after many years as a Communications Technician starting in 1942 on the Cleveland National Forest. In 1947 he moved to the Mendocino National Forest and in 1951 he was transferred to the Los Padres National Forest where he finished out his service in 1970.
