Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponca, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery, rural Ponca. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Calvert was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Sioux City, the daughter of James and Ruby (Klepper) Mahon. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1939. She married Lyle E. Calvert on May 19, 1947, in Sioux City. Charlotte lived most of her adult life in Ponca. She taught in country schools and in Newcastle for a few years. Later, she worked in the Dixon County Treasurer's office. She was a social worker for Dixon and Dakota counties for more than 25 years. She was very involved in the County Government Day activities for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Northeast Nebraska Deanery and Catholic Daughters of America. She served as a Eucharist minister and ran the CCD Program for many years. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Charlotte received the St. Joseph Parish Worker of the Year award in 1999. Survivors include her husband, Lyle of Ponca; nine children, Ruth Ann Buelt and her husband, Ron of Warsaw, Ill., Mary Jean Conley and her husband, Steve of Sioux City, Robert L. Calvert and his wife, Bev of Sergeant Bluff, Thomas C. Calvert and his wife, Cris of Newcastle, Neb., Maureen Rockwell and her husband, Bob of Waverly, Neb., Julee Wendte and her husband, Dave of South Sioux City, James H. Calvert and his wife, Patty of Dakota Dunes, Paul J. Calvert and his wife, Ann Marie of Chappell, Neb., and Patrick J. Calvert and his wife, Sheri of Gretna, Neb.; a brother, Robert Mahon and his wife, June of Sioux City; a sister, Ruth O'Brien and her husband, Judge Donald O'Brien of Sioux City; 31 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, James and Eugene Mahon; and a sister, Shirley Guerry. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name. Charlotte was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
