Ruby Gladys Krebs was born March 19, 1892 at Scotia, Neb., to Morgan L. and Annie V. Krebs. She attended Peru State Normal School at Peru, Neb. She taught four years at Lindsey, Neb., followed by several years at Raymond. She married William S. Thompson Nov. 5, 1919. He died in 1934. She and her brother Byron Krebs continued to operate a grocery store in Raymond until 1940. In June 1940 she married Carl Barkema of Raymond and they farmed east of Raymond until he died in 1971. She continued to live on the farm until 1981 when she moved to Omaha, Neb. She was a member of the church in Raymond and women's societies. She devoted 50 years of her life to maintaining the Cradle Roll of the church. She was a charter member of Raymond American Legion AUxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers. Survivors include one brother, Dale, Waldport, Ore; and three sisters, Zola Scheidt, Omaha, Neb; Doris Fecht, Minneaplis, Minn; and Iris Clark, Omaha, Neb.
