Read More	obituary from the Topeka Capital Journal 16 Nov 2000 Ruby Coons Valley Falls- Ruby Pauline Coons, 75, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at a Valley Falls nursing home. Mrs. Coons had worked at Mel's Hy-Klas Grocery Store, Hauk's Store and Arthur's Cafe, all in Valley Falls. She also was a supervising judge for the Delaware Township Election Board, a Jefferson County Census taker and an auction clerk for her father, Ray Gray. She was born March 1, 1925, in Valley Falls, the daughter of Ray and Josephine Burkett Gray. She attended Valley Falls schools. She lived in Osage City from 1978 to 1985. Mrs. Coons was a lifelong member of the Valley Falls Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Progressive Sunday school class. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Grahem-Herbers Post No. 3084 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Senior Citizens, YWCA and the Forget-Me-Not Club, all in Valley Falls. She also was a member of the Jefferson County Republican Women and the Priscilla Club at Hoyt. She was known as Grandma Ruby to many residents in the area. She married William D. Coons on Nov. 3, 1940, at Atchison. He preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Dan R. Coons, Deer Park, Wash., and William J. Coons, Victoria, Texas; a daughter, Mary Jane Burns, Valley Falls; eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the multiple Sclerosis Society, 5350 S.
