Description	:	Ruby Russell LaRue was born on October 31, 1925 to the late James Walter Russell, a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and Callie Jennings Russell. She is survived by two sons, Donald Russell LaRue and wife, Pam, of Crofton, Md., and Dale Wilson LaRue, resident of SWVTC, Hillsville; and one daughter, Ruby Ann Branscome and husband, Barry, of Galax; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Burnett and Mrs. Ruth Jennings, of Galax; one sister-in-law, Frances Russell, of Galax; and four grandchildren, Angela Branscome Reynolds and husband, Ronnie, of Galax, James Kendall LaRue, of Stamford, Conn., Dale Russell LaRue and... She is survived by two sons, Donald Russell LaRue and wife, Pam, of Crofton, Md., and Dale Wilson LaRue, resident of SWVTC, Hillsville; and one daughter, Ruby Ann Branscome and husband, Barry, of Galax; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Burnett and Mrs. Ruth Jennings, of Galax; one sister-in-law, Frances Russell, of Galax; and four grandchildren, Angela Branscome Reynolds and husband, Ronnie, of Galax, James Kendall LaRue, of Stamford, Conn., Dale Russell LaRue and Scott Pervier LaRue, of Crofton, Md. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Judge Dale Wilson LaRue, who passed away March 21, 1986, one brother, James Edward Russell, one sister, Mary Jane Russell, one half sister, Mr. Dora Liddle and two half brothers, H. Gray Russell and Elmer Russell. Ruby passed away after suffering a stroke and a lengthy attempt at convalescence at the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center in Galax. Ruby attended Woodlawn High School and graduated in June 1943. Married on Christmas Day in 1946 to Dale Wilson LaRue, she worked at Belk department store before deciding to become a full-time homemaker and caregiver for her family. She enjoyed filling her home with her many friends-playing bridge, phase ten, or any other card game, while providing tasty homemade treats to all that gathered. Ruby was a wonderful and truly caring woman with grave and unmatched kindness and compassion. Ruby loved reading the Bible, traveling, listening to gospel music, tending to her flowers, cooking and being the chauffeur for her friends. She cherished her church family and gave tirelessly to the many service projects of the church and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Christian Church of Galax and served the membership in many ways. Ruby traveled many miles to help serve communion to shut-ins, setup and prepared dinners held at the church, and provided behind the scenes assistance for many church functions. As a volunteer at the Southwestern Virginia Training Center, Ruby's generosity and efforts to enhance the lives of the residents was recognized and appreciated by the S.W.T.C. staff. Because of her dedication to serve these residents, she was recognized as Volunteer of the Year at the State Awards Dinner in Richmond, Va. Her defining passion was to touch the lives of everyone who crossed her path, whether they were a family member, friend, or stranger. Ruby was family oriented but she loved people and cared more deeply about helping them than herself. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Galax. The service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Morris, the Rev. Myron Dalton and H. Douglas Turner officiating. The burial will be at the Gladeville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Galax, on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 402 N. Jefferson Street, Galax, VA 24333. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, VA is serving the family.
